Hi I have this condition called PolyiCystic Ovarian Syndrome..I was wondering how many others may have this condition and may I ask what you have been prescribed for it by your Doctor. Till I was diagnoised I had no idea what was making me so ill. Till someone suggested I see a new Doctor and I have been so much better for the treatment I have received.

I have PCOS as well. I was diagnosed when I had my second child via c-section. The doctor took one look at my ovaries and said I have "classic" polycystic ovaries. Since then I've done some research and found I have a few other symptoms (the main one not being able to lose weight). I was put on Metformin (Glucophage) several months ago. It does seem to help control some of the symptoms.

Yes it is great to have had the symptoms helped by the metformin. It is amazing how the treatment has been able to help with the control. You yourself has been blessed with little ones. Thanks for your wonderful response also

Yes, we have been blessed with little ones and I'm very grateful for that! I think I may have started having symptoms between the two kids (5 & 3). I also had a miscarriage in between the two of them that we think was because of the PCOS (will never know for sure - just speculation on my part). I can't imagine what it feels like to really desire to have children and not be able to. My heart goes out to women who are in that situation.

Thankyou for you reply Cutiepie and glad that you had found help with getting pregnant. I wish you all the joy with your little bundle of joy. I was fortunate to have fallen pregnant and have three strapping children 9years, 10years and 14 years old. I was actually lucky to have fallen with the last which was my angel girl. As it had started to develope while I was pregnant with her.

Me. I found out after struggling with trying to get pregnant for so long with no result. I finally went to an endo and was diagnosed. I'm not sure I would say it makes me ill, but it sure does make gaining weight easy ;)

Yes the weight is far too easy to put on with this condition. I apparently been developing this condition since I was 35 and was told at the age of 43 that I had had it that long. I use to weight 63 kilos and I am now 80 kilos which is far too heavy for my height:(

I was diagnosed in 2000 and was given Metformin. I started out at 500 mg and it really didn't alleviate any of the symptoms although I did start getting regular AFs. I switched to a new gyno and he upped me to 1500 mg which helped me shed 20 pounds the first two months and got rid of the mood swings. I don't have a lot of issues because of this but having someone who understands the disease helps a lot.

Hugs and welcome to my little corner of mylot lilmrsarata. Yes the metformin has help greatly. Also hormone treatment and for all the rest my Doctor has been helping with. Yes I am losing weight and begining to feel better about myself also. I call it the big and hairy condition, so disliked my mood swings too but all is better with all the tablets. LOL somedays I feel like I rattle with the medications, but with what is now happening to my body I would not have it any other way. I hope your Doctor helps you with your treament lilmrsarata.

I found out that I had it sbout 4 years ago. I had my first son without any problems but when we came to try again we had no luck and after a while I was put on Chlomid and Metformin and fell pregnant after about 4 months. Looking back now I suppose I've had it for a long time, I struggle to lose weight and very often can go months without a period - I get all the symtoms backache, moodswings and craving chocolate but nothing else. We are now trying for a third baby but no luck so far and it looks as if I'll be going back to the doctors soon !

I have PCOS and it made my life difficult, but you learn to cope. The worst was the infertility, and i had three yers of treatments to have my son, and then two months more to have my twin sons. Because of PCOS I have problems with my weight, high blood pressure, and cholesterol (yes, they're all tied in with PCOS) I was extremely hairy and take Aldactone for it - brilliant!!

I should have mentioned that I also take birth control pills to regulate my periods - without them they would go haywire with Aldactone. I guess I'm at a stage I wonder what to do next (as I approach menopause)

I have to take Provera to get my period since I don't want to go on the pill. My doctor also got me on Metformin. When I wanted to get pregnant I was given Clomid. What were you given?

I had already had my children before even finding out I had PCOS. The doctor that helped me said I had been developing this condition when I was pregnant with my last child. When in that prengnacy I put on a hell of a lot of weight and feeling generally unwell. She was also a large baby compared to my others. So yes the pointers were correct. But I am now a happier person and losing my wieght as well so all has been a huge bonus. Good Luck hun

I am 28 and have had PCOS since the age of 15 or 16. My mom wouldnt take me to the gyno becuase she thought everything was normal. Well when I turned nineteen I took myself. They put me at that time on birth control. Well I cannot handle birth control. It give me morning sickness. This January I have been married for five years, no birthcontrol of any sort. My periods became worse. I was getting physically sick from them. So the doc put me on provera which actually can work as a pregnancy test so the doctor says as if you DONT start your period the day or two after the last pill you are pregnant. Well I want to get pregnant and the doctor suggested metformin. I have been on it for exactly one month now, and am in high hopes. He also suggested black cohosh for the hairs and acne that frequently occur with PCOS patients. It is an herbal medicine that can be found in what? Estroven which helps PCOS patients who are lacking in estrogen and produce excess testosterone. Wow, sorry so long.

I also have PCOS. When I was originally diagnosed, I was told that my only option was to take birth control pills. I wasn't willing to do that at the time. So I did my own research and came to my own conclusions. I switched to a low carb diet and continued exercising. I lost 50 pounds in three months! I had been trying to lose weight for years with no success. I tried counting calories and exercising and it wasn't working. I have since had a child and currently I am taking Yasmin. It is helping with some of my problems. But nothing will ever substitute for following my lowcarb diet! It works the best for ME. I am having problems getting back and staying on it right now. It requires more money and since having a child, I don't have as much as before.
