American Football vs Soccer

Hello Americans! With the Super Bowl fast approaching I was wondering why Americans like American Football so much and we (read: Europeans) don't? I'm from Italy and I like AF very much but the sport doesn't get any media attention or is being talked about in public? I was wondering why because I think it's a great sport. For the Americans (like you probably) it's the same with soccer, in Europe nr. 1 sport and in the USA not very known! Why is this? Why don't the Americans (and I'm not talking about you guys because you're playing a soccer game!) like soccer and do like American Football and it's the other way around in Europe? It's just a question that came up to me and I couldn't find a good answer!
