This maybe a crazy one-What Vacuum sucks up the most dirt the best?

I have bought one vacuum after another trying to find one that does the job I want it to do. I have dark carpet and it is hard to keep it clean. All these vacuums with these filters in it are so nasty to clean and hectic. I havent really liked any of the dirt devils that I have had.I have a cat that has hair and sheds and my vacuum picks up a good bit of it-but I can still see where it leaves some in the carpet. Is there a vacuum that is really good for pet hair and everyday jobs?Sure the $500 Dyson-but that is a little much.
