Does anyone here know how to use a ruler?

I am amazed how many adults here that I know who do not how to use a ruler for measuring things. Do you know how to use a ruler? Did you learn how to use one when you were in school?

Yeah, I learned to use a rule back in pre-school. I can't believe some people don't know how to use a ruler. Isn't it taught in schools anymore? I think that's something.

Yes, I know how to use a ruler. I think we learned that in Kindergarten. You know what else I find thats sad. Many people can't tell time on a regular clock with hands. They need a digital one. I think people are just getting lazy.

Well, I do know how to use a ruler and I too now adults that do not.
And they do not seem to understand the fractions.
My daughter was learning last year how to read a ruler and just didn't understand the way the teacher was explaining. So we had to have what my kids have called, "Mommy teaching time". I know my kids better and know how to talk to each child to facilitate their understanding. Once I explained that the ruler was broken down into 16 pieces, you count those pieces and put the number over 16....THEn reduce the fraction to the smallest...there you go! You have an inch and a 1/4!
My daughter was amazed at how easy it was!:)

You are right that many people do not understand or know how to do fractions as well as using a ruler. I know that I did not use a ruler very much after leaving school but I still remembered how to use it. That is great that you were able to teach your daughter fractions and how to use a ruler.
