Has anyone moved to PA from NJ to escape property taxes and the cost of living? How did it turn out for you, and would you do it again. I have this ongoing arguement with a family member about how he says that life would be better across the Delaware. We have family that live in eastern PA so I have an idea. Personally I don't think it would be so much cheaper and easier living in PA verses NJ. Yeah most definitly the property taxes would be cheaper. I think you have to look at the cost of living along with the job market and payscale. That is how you compare the 2 states. But dummy just thinks the grass is greener on the other side, no matter what I say.

Okay, as someone who now HAS to move from NJ to PA, differences I now HAVE to consider: Cons: 1. I have to learn to pump my own gas (I'm a lifelong Jersey girl and proud of it!) 2. Higher insurance (I'd be moving to the city of Philly) 3. Watching my back constantly (a kid being shot over a snowball???) 4. Learning to parallel park (something I have only accomplished about 6 times successfully since I got my license at 17!) (I'm sure there's more, but these were the top things I could think of...) Pros: 1. I'd be closer to my boyfriend (though we only live 30 minutes apart now....he does live in the city) 2. Property taxes--go from $3700 a year (scheduled to be $5231 not including fire next year!) to about $1k....that's a big DUH! 3. Still live in/around the area I've grown up (the Delaware Valley) 4. Job market pay is WAY better in the city than NJ (yeah you've got the wage tax, which we credit here in NJ to our state taxes, but Mayor Nutter wants to reduce it) My aunt & uncle along with 2 kids moved to DE from Drexel Hill, but they're still close enough to work in PA. They love it, but are removed from the large party of their family (the other two sons and grandchildren are still in PA, and my other aunts & uncles live either in PA or SJ). There's a lot for me to consider and I better get a move on!

Depends on your situation. Are you moving for personal reasons or because of work? Either way you still have to think of area. Like all businesses will tell you Location, location, location. IF it is for work most likely they will help offset costs of living. However if it is for personal reasons then choose a good area with a promising growth. Some areas is Penn are so expensive that it is not worth the drive. For instance in Hanover PA, property values have quadrupled since Marylanders are moving in. With property increases so do area businesses. Rents go up and so does life. As far as NJ goes, same thing just different location. I would choose PA before NJ because of better scenary and people ways of life. More laid back in PA then in NJ. IF you have any question please email me...
