Both ASP and PHP are server side scripting languages that are used to provide dynamic webpages. ASP-Active Server Pages, is a Microsoft's product. So you need IIS to run an ASP site(That means you need to have Windows at ur server end). You have to pay a lot to microsoft(for ur OS, ASP.NET and stuff). Whereas PHP-PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is an open source package. It needs just Apache server and mysql as dependencies. Both Apache and mysql are stable packages that are available for FREE for both windows and linux. So, even if u run the server on windows now, and later wish to change to linux (the vice versa also true), PHP would be ideal. Moreover, if you want to run a server, it needs to be secure. As you may be aware, Linux is far secure than Windows. Similarly, Apache is far stable than IIS and supports many languages than IIS.(refer http://webdesign.about.com/cs/webservers... ) So, PHP is gaining at a faster pace. Learning PHP is also not difficult, if u know C or PERL. Refer http://www.phpbuddy.com/sub_articles.php... for a detailed comparison.

I prefer php. Reason being is because I can run my scripts on a linux based platform. Its more secured having my scripts on a linux server then having it on a windows server. Mylot is on a windows server because it runs asp scripts. Windows isnt as secured as linux is
