I personally do not own one of these dogs but my son and his wife do. I was very afraid of her the first time I saw her because of her size. But I found this to be one of the most gentle dogs I have ever encountered. She has an awesome personality, a little clutsy at times, but for the most part a very lovable BIG dog. Do you own a great dane? Do you find yours lovable too?

When I was little a neighbor of ours had a Great Dane. It was a puppy (6 months old) and it would put it's front paws on it's owners shoulders (male over 6 feet high). When it did this it wasn't even fully extended! I do remember that it was a very loving dog too.

No, I don't think that I have ever been around a great dane. Since they are so big, it is nice that they are lovable. With their size I could see why they might be a little clutzy. I have a German Shephard that is about six months old. I, personally love this kind of dog, epecially as a guard dog. They are kind and gentle with the family but manacing to strangers. She has been sick for a few days but is recovering. I thought we were going to lose her but I think she is going to be alright because she has finally started eating again.

I definetely love great danes. They are one of the most gentle creatures inspite of their great size. I hope to own a great dane one day but right now I have got 7 mongrels and am not getting a single new dig while these are alive. I have lots of space at home so at least is no worry at the moment.

I do not own a great dane, but we know people that do. They live right around the corner. WE met them on a trail walk with our St. Bernard. It was nice to know that another person in the city had a large dog. Our dogs play great, and unlike when they play with other dogs, they don't hurt each other as easily as when the play with smaller dogs. They are great dogs to be around, and are very loyal. They are gentle giants as are the St. Bernards. They are both clutsy, but very fun to be around, and great with kids.

I never had one, But the ones I met were always loveable, and well made me feel like a tiny child, 5 foot tall 6 foot tall dogs standing on all fours will do that. Down the road from us. They had a huge black and White Great Dane, Well.. We live in Wisconsin so when we all first saw this dog through the bus window we notified our friend we thought their cows were out.. It turned into a huge laugh after we learned it was not a baby calf, but it was a dog, and they had no cows... They trained it to heard their sheep.. So they had this huge Great Dane running around keeping their sheep in their yard. It was hilarious! I got to meet their dog onces and he was a lovable huge pup... His size was so dumbfounding as he was taller than I was as a 11 year old at the time... I never owned a great Dane, but years down the road if I could afford it... I would not mind having one. :) . - DNatureofDTrain

Yes they are very big and intimidating. My experience they are very docile and fun to be around. A little clumsy but still fun. They have the best expressions.

Yes I have a GD named Deliah she is a joy to be around and even though she weighs 180 she is the gentlest dog I have ever known. She of course jumps up and hugs us that is a bit much but she has never acted as if she would be violent or bite somone. I always say she is Marmadukes sister. LOL

I don't have that breed ,but I had a german shepherd and I loved her so much.I was the only one at home who could manage her.People think they are ferocious, just like the doberman, but I love both of these breeds. And they are the best guards of them all. Both come from Germany by the way.

Great Danes are so awesome, they are gentle too, the ones I have been around at least. I do not own, but I would if I had an acre of land! Dogs need their own running space, not a small yard or apartment.
