How do you handle the cost of car repairs?

How do you plan for car repairs? Do you have a trusted mecanic, or get word of mouth? Will you try to fix it yourself, or a friend/family member? Do you call around for the best quote? Thanks and good luck!

fix it yourself your car shouldnt be that hard that way you know what you did
