Computers making funny noise?

My computer is acting up, its making a loud noise, its happen before and I thought it was the fan, so I cleaned it. Everything seemed fine for acouple days, then it started back up again (it also shuts off by its self every now and then) this time I used AVG virus protecor and cleaned the system, and it stopped. Now its doing it again. I dont know if its the fan, or maybe a virus. Any help?

Reinstall the operating system. This will reset everything to new again. Don't forget to backup anything you don't want to lose onto cd. If the problem continues after the fresh re-install, then you know it is a hardware problem and not a software issue
