Autism learning to read

My 5 yr old son knows all his letters, but he refuses to learn to read for me does anyone know any techniques I can use to make it exciting, I would like to use phonics

My daughter is Autistic...when she was 6 her teacher was able to teach her to read using phonics where the sound out each letter...help would be h h h h h elp...drove me crazy..but she did learn to read that way and now she reads just for fun...it's a bit below grade level for a 14 year old..but the ability to read is more important than the age level.
