No Mail for US Troops?

How come a prisoner in a maximum security prison gets mail once a week and our US Troops that are fighting for our freedom have to fight and argue to get mail twice a month? Really? It hears ridiculous. There must be someting wrong for it. Communication is the basic need for a numan beings, especially to their family. Another issue is whether ther is only one communication tolls for the troops, is phone or Internet available?

I know for a fact phone and internet is available to at least some of the troops because I had communicated with one for quite some time through the internet until he went back home to his family.
