Nursing Homes

I find nursing homes to be uncaring for their patients, all it is about is the money they can get from their families. Even when the person is permanently asleep, they are still fed and medicated at the families expense to keep the person alive for as long as possible. The longer the person lives the more money the nursing home gets. What do you think?

It depends a lot on the nursing home and the staff involved. There are good ones that really care about the patients and do their best to care for them. However there are the ones who are out to make money only and could care less about the residents that they are to take care of. If you ever find yourself in the position of having to put a family member into a nursing home you should make sure it is a good one. 1. Visit the place at all different times and on different days, including the weekend. 2. Check for any odors that should not be there. 3. See if it's clean and well kept. 4. Watch for a light to go off and see how long it takes for someone to respond. Do this with several lights. I say this only because sometimes you do have a patient that is always turning on the bell for the nurse (whether they need them or not and will turn it on right after the nurse leaves) and they might be slow to answer that one. 5. Make sure that visiting hours are 24/7. Most nursing homes have these and if they do if you go with them make sure you check on your family member at all hours. Staff is aware of who has visitors and who doesn't. 6. Find out how they did on their last state inspection. Just some things to watch for and to be aware of.
