Cloth diapering...

Tell me, why is it when you want to buy a nice cloth diaper, that the going rate is generally around 20-30 dollars usd? I mean sure diapers which are cloth do last longer, and do not fill up our landfills...Plus you can get so many pretty things done to them....But why is it that we're paying up the nose for them? Sure in a year from now it will save me on buying disposables all of the time, but holy the upfront cost is expensive! I mean just buying certain diapers ALONE will set you back 3-400 bucks! NOT including shipping! I have to pay up the butt for shipping because there is NO local diaper shop here...sucks...

Where are you looking and finding 20-30.00 diapers? Most people who arent 'imto' cloth pretty much know about kushies, which are like 8 bucks eaxh, or fuzzi bunz which are...wait a minute, their prices just went up to 17.95 but they do include an insert. They were 14.95 for the longest time. Anyway, Most cloth is WAHM made, and have you ever tried to price ut materials? It takes most people at LEAST an hour to make ne diaper, look at the cost of time, and then the cost of materials, and technically, a lot of working moms are losing money, rather than making it with their cloth businesses! I am by no means rich (as in i had NO money for a few months straight..) but I do buy one or two whenever I can, I have an almost 2 year old who has been full time in cloth since last June (05) and I am pregnant again due next year, and this baby will be in cloth as well. I love the cloth thing! What type were you looking to start with? what the size of your stash needs to be depends on how long you want to go between washing..you can go longer with more, but believe me, if you want to wait more than 2 or 3 days, youll thank yourself if you rinse them out before putting into whatever you store dirties in, LOL!) There are cheaper ways of going, and you can also get seconds which mostly are 'not so pretty' or not exactly perfect, but totally functonal diapres for really cheap. prowraps covers seconds are 4 bucks, I think. swaddlebees has seconds in their putlet for 6.99, and 7.99 for diapers normally 17.00 and 12.99 for diapres normally 22/23 bucks, so you *can* do really good with pricing, you just have to look! another option is buying some or all of your stash used, and that may sound gross but someone using a diapr once or twice may mark down half price, you just need to look for deals, whatever you decide on! I hope thi helps some, and if youd like to start cding, etc, feel free t pm me, and I will gladly help any way I can! :)

Oh I was thinking in Canadian prices - the Berry Plush are generally 20-30 each diaper. Fuzzi Bunz don't fit my DD, they cut her legs open.. I haven't tried Swaddlebees yet...

Tjhough in India price of diapers is only one dollar still we make it at home. I bought around 15 meters fo cloth before my baby was born cut it up in square pieces and folded it in nappy shape, it was convenient and easy to use and wash. I even made few in triangle shape to be able to use them instantly or for the days when you can not sit and fold nappies in shape. why don't you make some like these at home you can dress your baby in that and to venture out you can use the bought ones, will save you money. just cut the nappy cloth in square shape and join the opposite corners and stich them up make a loop at one end of the riangle to tie them uo I wish I could draw and show you. let me search the web to see if there is a drwaing available. I will just be back.

its obvious the shop owners dont care about the enviroment and are encoraging people to buy the disposible so the land fill fills up.its really not fair

well no its not fair. I mean I know cost is an issue, but honestly when you buy them at wholesale prices, you shouldn't be charging the general public this much for one diaper...

Love - on the beach
Would you like to wash "dirty" diaper's? I know what they say about the enviroment, but in the mean time, there is no way I am going to wash crap off some cloth diaper's. I would much rather pay extra to get disposible's and just throw them away. I don't think many people use cloth diaper's so one more won't really make a difference. If the whole world was using them, then that would be different.

Wow! I never heard of them being so expensive. Are you saying EACH one is 20 to 30 dollars?? My kids are 15, 12 and 11, and I remember looking into cloth diapers with my first child. It wasn't that high, but still pricey. Have you tried shopping online to find any deals?

Deals are what i look for too. Second quality are okay for me too. Some pricey dipes, i try to get away from. I cant justify buying one item for that much

i rarely buy cloth diaper that's worth that much money. i usually look for clearanced stuff and even if i really really want to get something cute and it's worth a lot, i try not to spend that much.

yeah me too, I mean lately I have been paying hefty prices for cloth diapers, but then hey I know I picked them out, I don't see them on anyone else's child, and they will last her a long time!

I understand what you're saying. I think it's worth it though. You have to understand there's more to cloth diapers than just disposables. For the cloth that are 20-30 we're talking AIO's and pocket diapers. There's a lot to those suckers. The prefolds and flats are the cheap ones, but harder to do. In disposables theres just paper and plastic, those are cheap materials. We're buying our cloth diapers slowly so we're not spending so much at one time.

Have you checked diaperpin.com? They have links to lots of WAHM sites that have cute and inexpensive dipes. If you're looking for wool longies I suggest making your own. Go to a thrift store and find 100% wool sweater, cut the arms and sew them together, insert an elastic waistband and VOILA- wool longies! I've made several and I love them. You can search the 'net for free instructions. Good luck and happy cloth diapering!

You would think that we would be encouraged to use this diapers because they last longer and because of environment reasons but honestly some people just dont have that much money to pay upfront for diapers when they can spend $20 or less and get a entire packet of disposables!
