These days it is real expensive to send your children to day care. Does anyone have a suggestion. I had to miss a half day today so that I can find day care for my 4 and 5 year olds. I have one in kindergarten and the other in preschool. they both go to shool in the afternoon. But I'm struggling as it is to make ends meet and now I'm coming to a dead end. I would like to do an at home business. I do alot of different types of crafts but gettin financing with bad credit is so hard. Any suggestions.

Do you know how to do alterations? I work for a dry cleaning business as a seamtress. The owner was also telling me that if I wanted more work that I could go to places like JC Pennies and other stores that has a mens suit department because they look for people to to alterations who will come in and pick up the clothes and bring them back. That might be an option. You could actually make quite a bit of money doing this. The dry cleaners I work for charges $12 just to hem pants. I guess that is average on the low side.

If I think of anything else I'll post it here. For alterations it really take a knowledge of how things are put together to know what is possible to alter and what is not. Some people forget that when you alter clothes that you are not sewing them back together in the normal sewing order and this can make it a bit tricky getting it to look right.

Tell me about it. I can put the simple things together but that is about it. I made a purse a couple of months ago and it took me a while to get it the way I wanted it (my own style). But it came out very nice. I'm going to put some more together and sell them when I clean out my work room and get organized int he next couple of weeks.

Hello Craftwave, No I really don't do alterations. I more of a straight line kinda sewing type of person. So the straight lines I've got covered. My mother in law and brother in law both have drycleaners and I used to do a few buttons here and there when I worked there but nothing more than that. My mother in law is better at doing that than I am. But you are right the cost to make alterations could make you some good money if you know how to do it.

Staying at home can be boring if you don't have a home business. but in the long run it would be cheaper than sending your kids to daycare and better for the families health. I hate sending my son to daycare, but I haven't got my home business flying yet. So until then I am working.

I hope to get my site and crafts selling soon. I hate daycare as well but right now it's the best solution at this time. How about you. What kind of HBB are trying to set up?

With us, day care was just too expensive so my wife stayed at home for 3 years. Now, we both work but we work opposite shifts so one of us is always home with our daughter.

I've tried to think of several alternatives and I've thought maybe a night job would be best for me. It's not like I get much sleep as it is. I've been stressed out for the last year because of my 16 year old and his grades and finances and children etc. I'm sure I can stay at home with them for about 5 hours in the morning and retreive them from shcool in the afternoon. I've made a decision to send my oldest to his father to finish raising him. I'm exhasuted being the taxi cab and the person who does everything. My husband does work a full time job and just got hired on so that means insurance at least. But sometimes I fell over whelmed with life in general. I would like to start a business but finances are not an option right now. (I can't even afford to pay attention-how sad huh).
