I know this may sound like a really stupid question but... What does the expression "the girl next door" actually mean? I mean, aside from the literal meaning. I used to think it meant kind of normal, average looks.

It does mean normal, but I think that there is also a deeper meaning. I think it can mean a type of girl you want to marry because she is sweet and the type you could bring home to your family.

To me it means somebody who is special and has attracted the interest of a 'boy from next door'. Well that's my opinion about it. Anyway good luck and thanks.
