It is best not to give money to charities, especially at Christmas.

Having seen first hand where your hard earned money deposited in collection boxes goes, I would never waste a dime again giving in that way. Far better to give a homeless person a blanket, a hungry person a means to feed themselves or a charity owner a kick in the butt for making a good living from tax breaks and people's good intentions. Of course most people can't find the time to do more than dig into their pocket, which is why the charities can set up with the same insincere mindset and get away with it. If you think i am harsh, then ask me about the use of funds on overseas development programs. Or look into the small print of charities who declare, 8% of all donations will go direct to the xyz cause, the rest is for admin. There are some genuine folks out there, and of course not giving anything is not what I am saying. Just don't perpetuate a lie and don't support an industry of opportunist administrators who stick collection boxes and envelopes and creative forms for tax breaks in front of a well-meanign public, with the underlying intention of generating revenue to finance their "charitable" lifestyle.

Great Job On Interesting discussions! There are few places that take books and gifts. (Starbucks) Maybe that would be a better way to give during the holidays. I know that only helps the Kids. What do you think?
