Why do people make promises they know they can't keep?

Don't they realise the paina nd suffering these kinds of promises can cause, or are they aware and just don't care? Have you ever made a promise that you knew you couldn't keep? Can these sorts of promises be considered as lies?

There are two kinds of promise-beakers. One is people who is used to making promises and don't keep them. The other is people who makes promise and try to keep them but they can't. The first kind of people are shammers who are indulged in making promises, and the other is some sort of innocent, but we may forgive them if they just do it once or twice.

I'm not sure if they should be considered lies or not because sometimes people are so sure that they will keep the promises that they make, but things change and so do the promises as well.

I never break promise - sometime I late 2-3 days or a week but did not break. Breaking promise is very offensive as it cause problem to other side. It is great lie and one kind of cheating. Clear cut word is better than a false promise.

yes, I do believe that a promise that you do not keep is a lie. There is no sugar coating it. I have never said anything that I knew that I could not do or keep that promise. I have however have said things that I would do and could not for other reasons. Like telling my kids on payday that they could get a toy, and then payday comes and the dog is sick so I have money going out to that. I have done that kind of thing. But I always explain and I always do it, even if it is later then sooner.

I've been a victim of broken promises...it is very painful. I usually take the word of the ones I love and trust, and when they can't keep it up it frustrates me! I never tell anybody I will do something unless I'm capable and sure of doing it.That's the least I expect from other people too.

Promise - Promise
As long as people ask for promises you cant stop it.
