WHY do horror movies suck so bad these days?

I agree about today's horror movies. I think the reason they suck is because the directors try to include a lot of blood and gore but don't do anything to build suspense. The scariest movie I can remember is probably Halloween. Especially scenes where Michael Myers is watching a future victim. That just creeps me out when I see it. The worst is pretty much everything made after the 80s.

the old horror movies are even worse, they are generally just funny, the problem is that we are all used to the graphics so very little can scare us. I don't think i've ever actually been scared by a horror movie they are all far too predictable
