Why does my wife ask me if she looks fat?

This drives me mental. The most horrible trick question to ask a guy is to be asked by a woman if she is fat. My wife has many times asked, "Is she as fat as me?" or "Am I as big as her?" I mostly just say simple yes or no. I might embelish that the woman is so much fatter than my wife that she could eat her and ask for seconds. I might be able to deal but it drives me bonkers. Other guys out there, what do you do when your signifigant other asks if she looks fat?
