2005 was a good year for movies. Brokeback Mountain, Capote, to name a few. What about this year? What movies do you consider the best?

the departed. i was tightly wound up while the movie was on. at the end, i was limp and totally wasted. that kind of reaction is rare for me. i'm hoping it'll win as best picture this year, and for scorcese to bag his first oscar (as best director)

I'm rooting for Martin Scorsese to win this year. Though The Departed is considered one of the best films he's ever made, it's really a shame that Scorsese didn't win an Oscar for his previous films which are now considered required viewing in most film schools in the world.

The Departed was awesome. The cast was absolutely brilliant. I was never much of a Leonardo di Caprio or Matt Wahlberg fan, but this film changed my mind. It was more violent than I'd normally prefer from movies, but I really did enjoy the movie was told and how it constantly had you changing your mind and secondguessing the characters or outcome. I really enjoyed Happy Feet as well. Hahaha!

Indeed, The Departed was a powerful piece of cinema. Sure it's not a weepy type of movie but you feel and root for its characters--it's like they're people you know and care about in real life. Yes, the violence is off-putting but only enforces its message--sometimes you can't wiggle your way out of a mess. Now, I'm even more curious about seeing the Hong Kong movie in which The Departed was adapted.

After the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I'm quite curious what fantasy films will look and feel like. I still have to check this one out, though.

Hurray for Johnny Depp, my favorite actor! The second installment was a real cliffhanger. Eagerly awaiting the last chapter. Go Jack!

Indeed, it was refreshing to see a James Bond movie that's a bit different. I thought Daniel Craig did a good job.
