UNICEF reports on neglected children

A United Nations report issued* last week warned that hundreds of millions of children around the world suffer from abuse* and neglect. The United Nations Children’s Fund report “The State of the World’s Children: 2006” urged world governments to take serious measures — through legislation* and funding channels — to solve the problem. The report suggests that governments should take measures to protect abused and neglected children in developing countries. The measures include research, monitoring* and reporting on the nature and extent of abuses against children, and changing the legislation that currently promotes discrimination*.
