So that it would be easier for them to carry them everywhere they go and the would be easy to carry in their arms as well.

I'm not sure. But a lot of women treat them like a stuffed pet animal. Maybe a statis thing.

I think it's because they can take them with them wherever they go. :) A bigger pet would be difficult to bring with them.
