Frist all the personal informatin can be put on cd disk and then once you get the new one you can transfer it to it or you have it on cd when you need it..If you are not able to do that there are websites that have free storage space to so call park that infomation till you need it...
With the old computer I would reformat the hard drive frist clean out all the information by deleting all of it thou the remove program that you can then reformat the hard drive and that should take care of it... good luck ...

There is a program available called Darik's Boot & Nuke, that will repeatedly write over the contents of your hard drive with random data, making it impossible to recover the actual data. I would recommend downloading this program, as I've used it several times in the past to wipe machines to comply with HIPAA requirements.

A Windows format will not entirely wipe out the data on the hard drive. Anyone with the proper tools can retrieve some or all of the data. You need to gat a formatter from the hard drive manufacturer and do a low level format.

after format also some people can get back the data.. better not to give the hard disk and charge some more to give him a new hard disk :) ... or format via a shredder where it would be in a program named as TuneUp Utilities 2006

Back up all your files to cd/dvd or even better to another internal hard drive or external one. After you got all your files backed up, you can format your drive in dos mode. Or delete the partition of your drive, after partition has been delete, everything will be gone.

U just try to make image of ur old data, make same partitions to the new hard disk, and copy pate data from some software like true image, norton ghost etc, partition magic also i think is good, but if ur hard disk will be the same, then no prob plugin ur hard disk, make sure to back up all necessary data from c drive and install windows in C drive by formatting it
