Is ROCK music an acquired taste ??

Have friends that is crazy about rock music. I've been open to many type of music. Pop, jazz, Folk, Hip hop... But what is it about Heavy metal and Rock that people enjoy so much? Sorry but everytime my friend put it on for me, it give me a splitting headache and i feel like jumping out of the car or struggle someone. Is it something that one grow on it slowly or it is a matter of hate it or love it?

Listening to music depends upon the taste of every individual and how it suits his listening standards. For me Listening to rock music makes me like flying in the sky. Depends upon my mood though. If I'm at party I like to listen to hiphop, alternative, and pop. But most of the time I listen to rock music. I grew up on listening to this type of music.
