How difficult is it to learn English?

I have always been told that Engish is one of the most difficult languages to learn. As a native speaker, I don't really know. English is a complex language due to its roots in German, and it's many borrowings from other languages such as Latin, French, Saxon, etc... and has one of the largest vocabularies of any language. Is it really that difficult to learn?
