closing of shops on sunday

Friends lets discuss: Most of the shops in alomost all cities are closed on sundays, which is the only off day for most of office goers.... Same thing goes for other institutions also like banks, reservation offices, financial institutions etc.. But general public only gets time to do their shopping only on sunday. So wil it not be a right decision for the benefit of general public that establishment should not be closed on sunday. In turn this will give more revenue to merchant establishments also as there will be more ppl coming on sundays for shopping
