You listen to the English FM station. They speak very fast and try to pick up the idioms and phrases. Keep a pocket dictionary and try to find out the meanings. Read the English newspaper everyday. Try to write letters in english and get this corrected by a person who is thorough in English.

First learn the grammer rules. Try to talk as much as in english. It is also a good idea doing chatting. I always chat with my friends in english only.

Try reading things that are in English, books, magazines, internet articles for example. Also watching movies or tv shows that are in English can help. You might want to try putting on the subtitles or closed captioning with them so that way you not only hear it but see it at the same time. Chatting with friends on line can help so long as you avoid too much of the text messaging short cuts. The short cuts won't help you with the language that much. Good luck

I agree watching movies/tv is the best thing to get a feel of "real" language spoken not just out of books. some people can read and write English but find it hard to join a conversation because they don't pronounce right and can't make up what the others are saying..

Just like everyone else has said, the best way is basically to immerse yourself in anything English. I've been learning French for a few years and my only obstacle has been my ability to immerse myself in all thing French. I don't have a lot of free time normally. Practicing here on myLot is also a fun way to learn language... be careful though, grammar is not always right in online forums like this, nor is spelling.
