DVD w/Home Theatre or a standalone DVD player (attachd to TV) is fine??

Hello everyone, I am planning to buy a DVD player this New Years Eve. However, when I made visits to the malls nearby, I saw that most of the Electronic Shops have an discount offer on the combined purchase of DVD player and Home Theatre (speakers). So what I want to ask you (DVD player owners) is whether a Home Theatre speakers are a must to enjoy the full features of a DVD player or the sound system of a TV is good enough??
