christmas...where did it come from???

If christmas started from believers celebrating the birth of Jesus...why do so many people feel like they have to take Christ, or Jesus, or God in general out of the whole season. I don't ever see Jews bashing us for celebrating this day, it always seems to the group of people who don't want anything to do with religion at all.
