They were going to induce me because when I was 40 weeks pregnant they thought I was developing preeclampsia- "Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only during pregnancy and the postpartum period and affects both the mother and the unborn baby. Affecting at least 5-8% of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine. Swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms." I have developed it will all 3 of my pregnancies, in varying stages. With my daughter they attempted to induce me at 37 weeks because I was having so many issues. I had been on bedrest for 4 months with her. Both my sons I hit 34 weeks before having problems, and they were born at 36 and 37 weeks by c-section as my first ended up being an emergency c-sec due to my health. We were hoping it would just be with my daughter, but combined with all 3 pregnancies I have spent almost 6 months on bedrest, not fun!

Pre-eclampsia is more accurately called "Metabolic Toxemia of Late Pregnancy" (MTLP)and according to Dr. Thomas H. Brewer, is a disease of MATERNAL MALNUTRITION during pregnancy. I have taught Dr. Brewer's work on preventing MTLP since 1980. Please visit my website http://www.auntienatal911.com and read about the preventative benefits of proper nutrition during the childbearing cycle. Dr. Brewer was my friend and mentor for 23 years. My battle cry in the war to eliminate MTLP is SAVE A PREBORN BABY! FEED A PREGNANT MOM! As you know, MTLP is the leading contributing factor to premature birth, low birth weight, very low birth weight, small for gestational age, and cns damage in babies. Maternal nutrition is the ONE factor EVERY pregnant woman CAN CONTROL! MTLP is PREVENTABLE!!!!

I really dont think that nurtition is the ONLY factor involved in the onset of "MTLP". Yes, every pregnant woman should eat properly, notonly to prevent pre eclampsia but to aid teh growth and development of her unborh child and take care of herself also.

oh i had pre-eclampsia. it devloped very slowly thoughout my pregnancy. first it was headaches, then i had protein in my urine some of the time, the came the swelling and boy did i swell!, then at the end of my pregnancy i had high blood pressure and they couldnt get it down. i was in the labor check room for 5 1/2 hrs to see if my BP would go down. i tried laying on my side, then switching to the other side, then they gave my BP meds had my feet propped up to see if the swelling would go down, plus giving me pain meds cause i thought i would die from the headaches!! well nothing worked. so then i was induced. when they started the induction i was only 1/2cm dilated and 70% effaced. so after two days of of slow, easy labor with very little contractions every 5min., and 7hrs of hard labor at the end, i have my baby boy! he came out struggling a little but was never put in NICU or anything. he is now a healthy very happy and very hyper 4 month old, who tries to do everything before he is supossed to! oh and my son was born a day before his due date!

I had it too. Well they kept saying I had it then another doctor said I didn't have it. Then like 2 weeks before my due date they had me come in just to check my blood pressure and some stupid intern checked me out and said that she thought I needed to be induced right away. I wasn't prepared so I started freaking out. It turns out that she wasn't even allowed to say that to me. They sent me over to the hospital but they determined I was okay. I ended up being induced a week later cause I was 2 cm and my doc didn't want to take a chance since my pressure was still up. That was 1 week before my actual due date.

i didn't have this problem with my pregnancy. im a new mom my son is 4 months old and i gave birth ceasarian type because i only opened until 5 cm and my labor was about 16 hours the doctors said they had to open me up because my baby was having a hard time already but now everything's back to normal and my baby's health is just fine. i guess it's really important to have a balanced diet, exercise and drink lots of water during your pregnancy to avoid such illness. keep safe!:)

I did and i had to give birth when i was still 8 months. They had to induce me and the pain was excruciating. I heard that induced delivery is a lot lot more painful than a normal delivery / caesarian delivery. I had to stay in the labor room for 3 days. I had more than a dozen IE's done before they finally decided that i was ready to give birth.

I had slight preeclampsia during my first pregnancy with my daughter, I was in and out of the hospital and was put on complete bed rest for the last half of my pregnancy. I was also induced at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure, my daughter was born 3 weeks early but weighed a healthy 8lbs 3oz. The only way to treat preeclampsia is to induce labor. I have since taken steps with eating right and exercising and have had no problems with my second pregnancy and I'm now on my third and still feel great.
