is scoliosis painful?curable?

scoliosis - The cause of scoliosis is poorly understood. In the case of the most common form of scoliosis, Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, there is a clear Mendelian inheritance but with
incomplete penetrance. Various causes have been implicated, but none have consensus among scientists as the cause of scoliosis. Scoliosis is more common in females and is often seen in patients with cerebral palsy or spina bifida, although this form of scoliosis is different than that seen in children without these conditions. In some cases, scoliosis exists at birth due to a congenital vertebral anomaly. Occasionally development of scoliosis during adolescence is due to an underlying anomaly such as a tethered spinal cord, but most often the cause is unknown or idiopathic. Contrary to common belief, scoliosis does not come from slouching, sitting in awkward positions, or sleeping on an old mattress.--wikipedia

according to wikipedia, Scoliosis is a condition that involves complex lateral and rotational curvature and deformity of the spine. It is typically classified as congenital (caused by vertebral anomalies present at birth), idiopathic (sub-classified as infantile, juvenile, adolescent, or adult according to when onset occurred) or as having developed as a secondary symptom of another condition, such as cerebral palsy or spinal muscular atrophy. **is it curable?restorable?

I am suffering from some sort of scoliosis but I take no medication because I don't have enough money. I don't believe it's curable. I have seen some who underwent operation but still they have such physical deformity but perhaps the pain is lessened.

i was diagnosed with 27-degree levoscoliosis 3 years ago, it means 27 degrees curved to the left. i currently have 3 doctors and they all tell the same stories. had i been at the age of 25 when it was diagnosed, they can insert a brace over my spine, but too late, i can't avail of that process coz i am 27 years old that time. since then, i indulge myself in muscle stretching every morning when i wake up. i compressed my back with hot towels twice a week. and have 10 sessions of physical therapy every year. there are times, my back really hurts, and i feel my back bones couldn't support anymore even when i'm seated :( i worked 8-10 hours a day, sitting in front of the computers, i barely had time to walk around - my doctors says, this is one of the many things i usually do that needs correction. they told me to walk around for 2 minutes every hour, like going to the restroom or pantry to get some glass of water to straighten and stretching my bones. so far the bad news i got from my doctors is it gets too risky to bare a child at this stage :( they say it's not curable coz it is already in your bones, but can be restored since our bones will restore itself once in 10 years. with the proper care and good posture, our bones will be okay... let's just keep our fingers crossed ;)

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was only about 10 and I am now 28. I started Chiropractic care when I was 14 and continue to see a Chiropractor twice a month. It has eliminated most of my back pain. Although I notice that when I stand in certain postions for too long I do experience a lot of pain. Also, sitting at the movie theater and in class(college) can cause some discomfort. Although, since I have had family members who also have scoliosis and have had to undergo surgery, I feel like so far I have gotten off pretty easily. Through chiropractic, my curve is almost gone, although when I stopped going for one year I experienced a large amount of pain and my discs started to degenerate. So, I think chiropractic definitely works, but you pretty much have to stick with it for the rest of your life. And as far as I know, scoliosis is not curable, only treatable.

I have scoliosis, during my check up the doctor saw the xray and recommended that I continue swimming to help ease out the aches, I also went to chiropractors regularly. I only stopped when I got pregnant, it's been 2 years now but I haven't gone back to the doctor to have my spine checked. I do pilates at least 2x a week and a little weight training, I notice that when I don't exercise my back really hurts, I'm also wearing a soft back support that helps me maintain good posture. My husband have medical benefit from the company which includes free check-up & treatment for scoliosis, I'll take advantage of that.
