Why can teens have an abortion without the parent's knowing?

I realize teens get in trouble and don't want anyone to know, especially their parents. How did our society get so screwed up to allow them to do this during school time without needing parental consent. I just hope my children know they can come to me with any problem and I'll help them the best I can. What's your thoughts on this....

Most states you must be 18 to have an abortion without a parents consent. Is the age of consent differet in your area?

Yes, a junior high and high school aged student can go with a nurse from the school to a medical clinic for an abortion, without informing the parents at all. Our kids can't even get their ears pierced without parental signature, but they can have an abortion. Doesn't make sense to me.

I don't think they should be able to, but apparently the lawmakers and the supreme court think differently than we parents.
I know someone else said a teen has to be 18 without a parents consent. I'm not sure where they live but that isn't the case in most states.
I'm pretty sure the supreme court ruled on this issue, but I could be mistaken.
