well it depends upon the kind of studies you do. but yes i agree it is a part of education more or less what ever be the subject area. but it is a crucial part in case a person is doing a study related to travel or tourism, geo realted studies.

Yes, i think that you would learn more through a month of travel than a month in the classroom. It helps you apperciate different cultures and different ways of live - which in this ever globalising would is increasingly important. Not sure that travel should be made compulsary though, i don't think every one welcomes new experiences and places with open arms. If you don't have an open mind when you visit a place you are unlikely to learn from it.
