New Years Resolutions--- are they a waste of time???

Come the last week of the old year and most people the world over will start writing really long lists of New Years Resolutions. But what happens later?? No sooner do the New Year Celebrations fade out so do the Resolutions...so is it that making a resolution we are wasting time.
