Why is C:\ Default drives(starting) for Computers

Why is C:\ Default starting drives for computers..Why cant it be Z:\ or y:\ or x:\ Share your Skills!

May be it's just a requirements in the design principle of windows. UNIX based OS systems don't have drive letters for example. Moreover we can change the drive letters after windows is installed accordingly.. What Do you think?

because A drive is meant for floppy drive, B act as a backup drive sometime another floppy drive and then comes the c: drive alphabetical order

Confirming since inside the computer the ribbon that connects the motherboard to the disk(floppy) drive has only two spots available to connect to 2 device which is why only two letters are necessary in this case leaving the C letter the 1st available letter the computer can use to load the Hard Drive. After that, whatever device you install inside or external will take the 1st available letter unless you reassign it a new letter.

c:\ drives is normally used for all systems.A drive is floppy.K pin drive.G cd driver.

Because A and B is reserved for Floppy drives, Also u can change it.
