Is it not better to adopt a child instead of going for pets? Spending so much on pets and dishonoring the mankind?

Hi! I don't quite see how taking care of a helpless little animal and giving it a home is dishonoring to mankind. It would be nice if everyone could adopt a child, but not everyone can afford it and not everyone would make a suitable parent.
