we should teach them how to find good jobs, so that they can manage their own living and not begging for money or food to others

I prefer giving food and thats what i do most often especially if there is a food shop close by. At least I know that the food will be eaten. Sometimes, these beggars have people who make them beg and order them to collect a minimum amount of money. This way the food is almost always eaten at once. I know it costs a lot more than actually giving htem a few coins but they always seem to be hungry

well.. i'd give food... cause i don't think they'd know to spend the cash properly.... well i won't say that abolishin beggary is a wise thing... cause the kids and old people have no hope... instead of abolishin or tryin not to give them any money... we can make some charity place or some rehab to teach them some jobs small scale stuff somethin like taht...

I prefer to give food than money. If you will give money you don't know what they will buy for that. So instead of giving money just give them a food.

it depends.. if I have food with me, i'll give them food but most of time I give money becuase I dont bring food all the time. It would be nice if I could give them food because Im sure what they will do with it. as for money, sometimes, they dont use to it to buy and their necessities they sometimes use it for lottery and the likes and sometimes even gambling which makes me sad.

Give food and if necessary, SOME money. And if ever I give them some, I'd rather bring them back to their native place. I'm sure they have a home before they went astray. If ever I really want to help, why not give help to the very best that I can? And not just to be a show-off.

i used to give them money but it was banned it our city to give alms to beggars whether it's in the form of food or money coz they are run by syndicates here in our country.

I do not give money not I am interested to give food. Both should be stopped by everyone. There is a big gang working in pushing some gullible poor people to begging. Instead I inform police to take them to Begger's Relief Camp where they are given work and they can earn food and money.

I don't encourage beggers. If they are really disabled then I can help them. Whether I give money or food depends on the situation I have.

I prefer giving beggars food. According to my experience, some street children would use the coins they collect to gamble.

We have an anti-mendicancy law being imposed right now that prohibits the general public from giving anything to beggars and street people because it encourages folks to flock to the streets and make a living by begging. It is the goverment's responsibility to cater to these people's needs. Although, we don't seem to see the results, I guess they are doing something about it. Why else would they ratify such a law? But I would sheepishly add that sometimes, I give in to the softer side of me. I hand a coin to an elderly every now and then but food would have been better. The least I can do for them is to appeal to agencies that are supposed to take care of them so that they'll be put in shelters and be given a decent living.
