Why is boxing day called boxing day?

I've been looking for this answer for a very long time! can someone please tell me why boxing day is called boxing day? any history wud help! thanks :)

If I remember correctly (we don't celebrate it in the United States) the day after Christmas was traditionally when Lords would give a gift to their servants. Their servants would bring decorated boxes with them to work and the lord would put coins in each of them.

That is exactly what I have heard too. Also the churches would open the donation "boxes" on that day and distribute to the poor, hence the term "Boxing Day"
