Has anyone had experience with tubes in the ears. My son will be 3 next month, has had 4 ear infections since October. They said that one more and they will send him for tubes. I don't really know what is involved in them. Can he get his head wet, do they have to be changed and things like that. Just hoping for some opinions from people who have had experiences with getting, using and maintaining them.

My oldest daughter had to have tubes in her ears after recurrent ear infections. It is not a big deal. They do the surgery in about 20 minutes and it is outpatient. She did have to limit the water she got in her ears, and things were really loud to her for a while. They will give you drops to put in the ears for a week or two. The tubes fall out on their own and you more than liekly won't know even know when they do.

how old was she when she got them? When they fell out did she have problems again? Did she have to get them again? How long did they stay in? I'm sorry to ask so many questions. I just don't know much about them and would like to know more before we go back to the doctor next week.

Tubes in the ears is the modern day equivalent of getting your tonsils out. Remember how all kids used to get those out routinely? Now it's tubes in the ears. My cousins kid had them. Didn't help her. Other kids it helps. I think you have to wear ear plugs if swimming, but just washing your hair, you don't. Find a good Ear, Nose, Throat doctor to take your son to. It doesn't matter if he's a peds or not.

thanks. That's our next step. we go to the pediatrician again on Tuesday. poor little guy has been to the doctor's 4 times in the last 3 weeks. He hates it. At this point since the last one didn't clear up and needed a 2nd antibiotic, I think tubes are assured. I just worry about the anestesia.
