What's EMO all about...?

I don't mind alternative music and hey I came from punk rock, new wave, heavy metal era. All these name changes....gotta keep up. Inform me if you know....

I'm not sure, it's a new trend of people, EMO, my sister is into it, I don't know much about them, she says they're very emotional and they also cut themselves.

I've heard they are known for cutting themselves too. What I've been told is EMO is a music style similar to gothic/punk look and they talk a lot about cutting.

I'm not quite clear on what EMO really is. I like many genres of music. I've been out of touch with all the names and styles of music for awhile, but my son was talking about some kids at his school were into EMO. I'm curious now. Is it like alternative rock? If you know, what would you say are the main characteristics of it...clothing, appearance, lyrics....?

Emo is broadly used to describe that expresses emotions,emotional palette of alienation and rage "Emo kids" or "Emos" are stereotypically seen as being whiny, angst-ridden, and painfully love-struck teenagers

I've been told that that style of music sings about cutting themselves. The kids that like EMO do the same, possibly wear black cloting all the time. I'm trying to figure out the difference between people that say they're "Gothic or Goth" and now "EMO". In your opinion, are they similar?

yeah they wear black cloths, but i think it's different to be emos or goths.. and the music (not lyrics) are definitely different

The difference between emo and goth is emo's cut themselves. They are overly emotional and thinks the whole world hates them. My friend's say emo is one step below transvestite b/c the girls dress like guys & the guys dress like girls.
