Would you be worried about losing your hair?

I start chemo soon, and have been thinking about this whole losing my hair thing. Most people don't think about it, but they do mean ALL of your hair, including your eyelashes and eyebrows, "down there," legs, armpits, and so on. How would you feel if it were you? I am a little worried.

good luck with your chemo, first off. my best friend went through 2 rounds of chemo in 2005 and she did not lose her eye lashes or eyebrows. i kind of think it depends on the person. she shaved her hair off before it started coming out and she went to the beauty store and bought those cloth turbines and she also wore a scarf or hat, never wore a wig much. i hope your chemo treatments are successful and you feel as good as possible during them.

The thought of losing your hair is scary. I think a womans hair a big part of how she puts herself across to the world, and the thought of losing it, is scary. I first lost my hair in 2005, with my first lot of chemo (it was the FEC chemo combination). It didn't bother me anywhere near as much as I expected. I expected it to be really traumatic, as I'd had long hair all my life. I didn't lose my eyebrows or eyelashes (though they did thin a bit), an my leg hair kept growing! My hair started growing back before I had my last chemo (I had 6 cycles), and seemed to grow back quite quickly, and the same colour as it was before. Though I think it was slightly thicker than it was before chemo. I've just started chemo again (docetaxel), on 4th January, and have lost my hair again. But not my eyebrows or lashes yet, touch wood. Chemo didn't put me into menopause either. It isn't guaranteed that it will. That is, my first lot, in 2005 didn't. I suppose I have to wait and see if this lot does! I have a couple of great wigs (one from ebay!), and I just try and look on the bright side.. no time wasted washing and styling hair, and you can change your hair style and colour, as often as you want! I know you'd rather have your own hair, and so would I. But I'm trying to make the best of a bad situation.. I think you just have to. xxx

First I want to say that I am so sorry that this happened to you and I wish you the best of luck. I don't know what I would do but I think I would be very upset to lose my hair. I suppose you could get a wig for your head. But honestly, losing hair is the least of your worries. Concentrate on getting well first. I know appearance can be very important to people in terms of feeling good, so get a wig now and try it out. Good luck to you!

I am also worrying about hair loss that's is why I always see to it that I use a mild shampoo. I don't think my hair fall is associated with any other ailments so I guess I'm pretty healthy.
