This morning (28 Dec 2006 @ 5.30am GMT), listening to my favourite BBC programme Network Africa, I heard a listener from Nigeria praise Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. The listener went further to state that Obasanjo was like Nelson Mandela. Honestly, is that genuine comparison? I beg to differ with the listener. There is no way one can extol the former military ruler who chanced his way through questionable elections results to be President of Nigeria and is now the trying to thwart democracy in his country. I think Obasanjo, as another listener stated, is millions of light years from Mandela, the grande statesman and great human being.

I agree with you 100% percent, the only person I can compare Obasanjo with is Zimbambwe's Robert Mugabe. They have in common lack of Vision to lead their countries out of long term negative perception the world has on their country.
