Can blind people see their dreams?

Here I am talking about people who have been blind for all their life, who cannot put a face to anyone. Do you think they even have dreams? I mean, they don't have images of nothing, not even imagination I guess. What do you think about it?

Actually, someone at my school asked this very same question. It was when this retired pro-wrestler came to our school, he had sunglasses on, even though the gym was brightly lit. He told us that he was blind, but that didn't stop him from obtaining his dream. When asked if he did dream, he replied "Yes, vividly. I feel, hear, and imagine."

Thanks Jess for your answer, very interesting :). It seems this is the basic opinion of this topic, they dream but very different from what we dream

As a person who has been blind since birth (almost 29 years now), I figured I'd chime in on this discussion from firsthand experience. Yes, I do dream. As far as I know, I don't see anything in my dreams, but I do hear, feel, taste, smell, and all the other stuff I do during my awake hours. As far as imagination goes, mine's pretty vivid...Though Imagination contains the word "image", it really has nothing to do with seeing in a visual sense...More mentally picturing something, I guess. I have to admit (I'm sure the intentions were good), I find some of the comments posted in this thread to be a little bit offensive/ignorant. At least here in the US, for the most part, those of us who are blind have pretty normal lives...Just like our sighted friends, we raise families, go to work, go to school/church, like to hang out with friends, surf the net, and all the things you as a sighted person do...In my life, I've found the only big difference is, I can't drive myself from place to place...So, I either use a bus, ride with a friend, or my wife drives us whereever we're going. I'm not trying to sound rude, but to those who have said how awful blindness must be and how badly they feel for us, it's not necessary. I'm guessing those who have said this have never really known anyone who is blind...I'm not just talking about seeing a blind person on the street or in a restaurant; I'm talking about maybe having a friend or colleague who is blind or has some other disability. Very interesting topic though.

Thank you for your interest in this topic. It's nice and interesting to hear an opinion of someone who has gone through this. The brain is a very complex part of a human so it always tryes to adapt. So I think that blind people have other characteristics that help them a lot in living a normal life, and that's a very good thing. You have someone to help you do things you could not do alone, but there are blind people who can only rely on themselves. Thank you for your post, it's greatly apreciated.

I have heard that blind people can dream. I am glad for them at least one good thing they should have because they are blind. Can't imagine a life of being blind and can't see nothing. I am sorry for all of them and i wish them only great dreams. Good luck!

Gosh dan, I never even thought about that, so I had to go look it up. I found out that those that have been blind since they were very young experience a very high percentage of taste, smell and touch sensations in their dreams. And those the haven't always been blind, see images of what they can remember. Great question...SS

I think aboout it that way too, the ones who have always been blind, can't imagine almost anything related to imagery so they have blank dreams. It's sad if you think about it... not being able to see anything even in your dreams. Thanks for your interest in this discussion, I have my best answer :)
