Did you know that President Gerald Ford.... 1. was a member of the House of Representatives holding the Grand RapidsCongressional District seat from 1949-1973. 2.on 10-10-73, he was nominated to take the vice presidency after Agnew Resigned. 3.on 8-9-74, he assumed presidency after Nixon resigned. 4.immediately after taking the oath he went to the East room of the White House and delivered this speech: "I an acutely aware that you have not elected me as your president by your ballots, and so I ask you to comfirm me as your president with your prayers." 5.on 9-8-74, He gave Nixon a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes he may have committed while president saying, "it is an American tragedy in which we all played a part. It could go on and on and on or someone must wirte the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that and if I can, I must." 6. He had 2 assassination attempts while president one on 9-5-75 in Sacramento, CA and one 17 days later in San Francisco, CA. 7. On 11-12-06 he became the longest living president. 8. he died at 93 years of age on 12-26-06 at 6:45pm PST at his home in Rancho Mirage, CA. Mrs Ford and their 3 sons were by his side when he died. Mrs Ford said a brief statement from her husband's office at the Rancho Mirage: "My family joins me in the sharing of difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather has passed away at the age of 93.
