I have a three year old female dappled miniature daschund and before her I had a black and tan miniature daschund...I come from a long line of miniature daschund lovers...my question to you is is there anyone out there that has ever potty trained one and if so how did you do it?....my middle sister had one that was trained but it she didn't do anything with hers that I haven't tried already...please give me some insight and some ideas...

Oh this is a doosey. Mini Dachshunds are notorious as I am sure you know for their stubbornness. They are extremely smart, just stubborn. It took me almost 10 months to get my girl Selens to go outside and she has a doggie door with free roam in and out of the fenced yard. She would go out, and come back inside to do her business. I finally strted scolding her when I caught her and taking the poo with me when I took her outside and placing it in the same spot everytime. She finally caught the scent there and that is where she now goes. I also had to super clean my carpet in her regular area so she could not smell it there anymore. She has not been potty inside since then. I hope this helps, I know they all have their own little minds and are quite the stubborn little boogers, but Oh so loveable!!!

Sounds like a wonderful idea - something I haven't tried. I usually just flush down the toilet and mop with disinfectant. We had already removed all the rugs. I have four miniatures, three little guys and one little girl. She rules us all and I've already decided that they allow us to live with them - not the other way around. Thanks for the help - going to try it next time and believe me, there will be a next time. I also have trouble with "someone" teeing on the floor as well. Just can't catch the little culprit - any ideas on catching the right one????

I had such a hard time training my dog. What finaly worked was keeping him or a schaedual. I walk him every day at the same exact time. Also only put food and water out at certin times during the day to limit accidents.

I have tried that as well but everyone knows how damn near impossible it is to potty train a miniature daschund....but my other dog I have was a breeze...a couple of times of telling her no and putting her nose to the mess and she quit...she even helped train some of our other dogs that we have had along the way
