Can a friend, hug u in front of everyone?

It happened to my friend Jane, her friend (XYZ)whom she considered only a friend came and hugged her (very passionately) in front of everybody. Obviously Jane was embarrased but she didn't react to it. She didn't want to create a scene in front of everyone and simply laughed it off. When she and XYZ were at the coffee shop that evening, she told him not to ever do that again. XYZ never spoke to JAne again. is this correct? was jane wrong in putting forward her dislike?
