Stopping Resolutions

Why is it that most New Years resolutions are about stopping something or quitting something? Why can't they be more positive? And while we're at it, resolution means to resolve or end something. Why do we start off the year with an ending?

I like what you are saying. It is something that I have tried to do for years now. I don't make resolutions anymore...I set goals, they start out as big goals, and then I break them down into smaller, achievable goals that I know I will succeed in doing. I always try to put a positive spin on the words, rather than using negativity. If you are negative, and the target goal is negative, you will have a negative result. I don't look at it as ending the year...I look at it as "ringing in the new year." You have a good outlook on it all though. Happy New Year.

That's a great way of looking at it. I've never been able to keep New Year's resolutions, and I always wondered why. I like your system. Thanks for the thought-provoking response!
