What happened to movie ratings?

Is it just me, or have movie ratings become a lot less strict? Seems like PG movies today could have been rated R back in the day, and I don't know if this is a good thing.

Movie ratings have been going downhill for years now. Rarely see a rated G movie anymore that isn't a cartoon. PG-13 took the place of R movies and R movies are showing a lot of triple-x material these days. I don't think it's a good thing. Just one more thing for busy parents to do: screening movies they don't want to see to make sure they are fit for their children to watch.
