Do things really get worse, before they get any better?

At least that is what the saying says. Things for me come in spurts. They are going really good, and then they bomb while going downhill. No christmas for us this year, we live in vegas, and are not having anything to do with new years. My boyfriend lost his job. Just trying to live is costing us about 1400 dollars a month over our budget. That is with no ammenities of any kind. Of course we have water, electric, sometimes food. How would you suggest getting out of this?
