How is it I have almost 1000 channels and there's nothing on???

Okay, I work for probably the biggest telco in Canada and I get a nice discount off my telco services. But I'm continually frustrated with the lack of programming on television, specifically later at night or early in the morning and even in the day time. And especially on Saturdays.... What gives? I can only watch so many CSI reruns as I've seen them all countless times (I have the entire collection on DVD) and the same goes for Star Trek: TNG, Voyager and DS9 and other shows. Has syndication really become so bad that is all there is to watch? Must we revel in the "good ol' days" of programming? I don't mind watching some old episodes of That 70's Show or Married With Children, but what gives at 12am on a Friday night when there's absolutely nothing on and I have have close to 1000 channels? Can anyone explain this to me? Anyone have a similar experience to share, etc?

Oh boy, I have to agree. We've got Rogers digital cable, and never can you find anything decent on the basic cable channels. Nightime is worse, loaded with what I call nimphomercials, and crappy reruns I've seen only 1000 times!! However, sometimes I'm lucky and the on demand services provide something good to watch. I prefer to be online, since this seems to be more entertaining than television sometimes.

I agree, Rogers on Demand is great... but even then, if you have TMN or the Movies Pack you have access to TMN on Demand and MPIX on Demand which are good too, but I find there's very little that I actually want to watch on in a given week.

It sucks sometimes you're right. We do have TMN and all that, but we also have WWE on Demand, so we always find something there of interest.

What type of shows do you like? Science fiction maybe, well the scifi channel has some shows that I must watch, for example Eureka, Hero's,Threshold, Battlestar. Or if it's mystery...the BBC and the Bio channel has some great show. Or even here in the U.S., I think CBS has some great things going on with Jericho, NCIS, Numbers. I guess though, it really comes down to what peaks your interests...SS

I have just basic cable TV with about 60 channels; I can't imagine having 1000 channels and not finding something to watch! You're right, there's something wrong if that's the case. That's why I have a good collection of DVD's. There is always something that you can be in the mood to watch that way.
